New Mexico is losing our forests: 6.8+ million acres have burned in New Mexico since 2000. Our wildfire crisis is also a water crisis. When forests don't recover, routine rain becomes catastrophic flooding. Reforestation is needed to break the cycle of wildfire to flooding.
A MASSIVE SEEDLING SHORTAGE: New Mexico needs at least 5 million seedlings annually to meet reforestation demand. Current state capacity is ~300,000 (a 94% deficit).

Reforestation in the Southwest is challenging because of heat and drought. Growing seedlings locally ensures that they are grown in a way that will improve survival and are ready when the weather conditions will support successful planting.
